Raising Puppies

We love raising puppies, but our litters are one, maybe two a year. The babies are whelped in the house and loved and played with every day. By the time they go to their new homes, they are very well socialized and have been exposed to all the noises and activities that go along with country living. We take great pride in having the ability to help select the right puppy for their new person/family. We evaluate temperaments with much care, to be sure of the perfect match—hunting, obedience, active family, fireside companion, therapy/service, and search & rescue. The puppies show us through their personality traits where they need to go. Only individuals who will allow their friends into their homes and hearts will be considered. Fenced yards, ample time, and a commitment to proper nutrition and routine veterinarian services is a must. We do not support juvenile spay and neutering. New owners must agree to allow their puppy time to reach maturity/growth plates closed, before neutering. All our pups are sold on limited AKC registration. It is important to us that new families be dedicated to the training, exercising, and care of their new family member.

Bouldinaire N' Tuscany Labradors are AKC Breeder of Merit. This Merit is not an award—it's a recognition of achievement and dedication to breeding purebred dogs with the appearance, temperament, and abilities that are true to their breed standard.

To be considered for the AKC Breeder of Merit program, one must meet the following requirements: have a history of five years with AKC events—we have more than 40 years; have earned conformation, performance and companion event titles on a minimum of four dogs from AKC litters bred or co-bred; be a member of an AKC club; certify that applicable health screens are performed on your breeding stock as recommended by the Parent Club; and demonstrate that all puppies produced are individually AKC registered.

Fulfilling the AKC Breeder of Merit program, we screen our dogs for orthopedic disease for hips and elbows with results listed in the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) database. In addition, dogs are examined annually by a veterinary ophthalmologist for genetic eye disorders, cleared of heart value defects by color doppler, as well as DNA tested.

We are active members of three local clubs—Rose City Labrador Retriever Club (Oregon), San Joaquin Valley Labrador Retriever Club (California), and Mt. Rainier Labrador Retriever Club (Washington).
